The Whites won the Spa Porta Maris & Suites del Mar Tournament in Alicante in a match in which Slaugther excelled (18 points and 10 rebounds)
Real Madrid continue their fine tuning in the lead up to their first official title of the season, the Endesa Super Cup, next weekend. Pablo Laso’s team easily beat Lucentum in Alicante (43-68) to win the Spa Porta Maris & Suites del Mar Tournament. In a match in which the visiting side clearly dominated, both in defence and attack, stand outs were Slaugther’s performance, top goal-scorer, and Jaycee Carroll’s debut this campaign. Mirotic wasn’t able to play after suffering discomfort during the warm up. The team will now be looking to continue their immaculate record in the preseason matches during the Comunidad de Madrid Tournament.
Fifth win in five games for Real Madrid in the preseason. The Whites were very focused hitting the court in the Centro de Tecnificación in Alicante and they soon took the lead on the scoreboard. The first quarter was notable for Jaycee Carroll’s presence in the starting five, while Reyes and Begic were top goal-scorers. The scoreboard showed 8-17 for Laso’s team at the end of the first quarter. Rudy Fernández took charge of the offensive play in the second 10 minutes. Two three-pointers from him gave Real Madrid a lead of 17 points. However, Lucentum managed to close the gap before half time (21-35).
Going into the third quarter the Mallorcan forward continued his good form in his outside throws. He shot the most spectacular basket of the match, finishing off an alley-oop passed by Sergio Rodríguez. During this period Slaughter also started to stand out in the Whites’ offence. With Real Madrid continuously ahead by at least 10 points, Pablo Laso began to draw on players from the bench and sent on Hernangómez (18 years old), who had an interesting showdown with the veteran Middleton (46).
The final quarter began with 34-49 on the board but the lead grew as the end drew closer. Llull, Rudy and Slaughter provided some fantastic minutes of play for the team, who in the end clocked up their fifth victory with a resounding 43-68. The American centre was chosen MVP of the match with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
